Gmail Hacking Attempt!
Google Inc. recently discovered an attempt to steal passwords from its Gmail users, which may have originated in China. The hacking attempt is being reviewed by the U.S. State Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation. At this time, it is believed no Netpros’ customers were affected by the hacking attempt.
The U.S. was notified on June 1st, 2011 and is looking into the allegations, according to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The FBI is working with Google to review the matter, said Jenny Shearer, a bureau spokeswoman. The attacks likely targeted hundreds of Gmail users, including U.S. government officials.
“We are obviously very concerned about Google’s announcement about a campaign that the company believes originated in China,” Clinton said today at the State Department. “These allegations are very serious. We take them very seriously.”
Google did not disclose who may be responsible for the hacking attempt.
